NYC: Bright Lights, Good Eats
I love a road trip. Especially with my good girlfriends. Last week, MimiCuteLips and I hit the streets of NYC to see some sights, do some shopping and of course, eat some good food (or as Mimi affectionately calls it #FatSnacks).
I recently mentioned how one of my favorite holiday memories was walking up 5th ave with my big sister, checking out all the windows and larger than life holiday displays so I was totally jazzed about reliving the experience. I'm basically Buddy the Elf at holiday time.
First stop, Baltimore
We headed to Baltimore at way-too-early-o’clock in the morning because Mimi had an appearance on WBFF Fox 45. My friends are amazing. After she slayed her appearance, we grabbed some hot drinks and our first meal of the day then hit the road.
Of course, the first thing on our minds after the adventure that was getting from Newark, NJ to the city was food. We were way too excited about the availability of street food so we grabbed a hotdog and jumbo soft pretzel. You haven't lived until you've eaten New York City street vendor food. It ain't fine dining but honey it's delicious.
We strolled from the famed Macy's Herald Square to 5th ave where stores like Lord & Taylor and Saks were all the way in the holiday spirit. The windows were just as intricate and beautiful as always. Unfortunately, I didn't get many pictures because I brought my camera but no memory card. #Fail
I got my memory card life together at Rockefeller center
Who could resist the allure of giant Christmas ornaments? Not I.
Here’s where it gets super juicy.
Y’all know I’m a sucker for a good thrift find and Mimi is a sucker for #FatSnacks, so we absolutely had to hit up Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg. Best of both worlds.
Apparently the food at this place gets two thumbs up from Iron Chef Mario Batali. #Winning
We shopped a little:
Handmade wooden "diamond" earrings from Lewis & Pine
I have an affinity for sequins
This was the cutest thing ever. My boys LOVE Michael Jackson and Legos so this had their names all over it
And we ate a LOT:
The Ramen Burger. "Prime ground beef chuck patty sandwiched between two craftily formed buns made from freshly cut ramen noodles." The deliciousness was real.
As if the ramen burger wasn't enough, I decided I'd try these brisket sliders from Mighty Quinns BBQ. This was so good it made me dance. While eating.
After we left Brooklyn Flea we headed back to the city to catch the train back to our hotel in Newark. But first… ice cream (there's always room).
This spot is called Holey Cream and all I can say is: Yaaaaaas!
Strawberry ice cream donut sandwich topped with strawberry glaze and fresh strawberries. Yum.
Saying so long to Macys Herald Square
Even though the city is jam packed with tourists this time of year, I still love it. There’s just nothing like New York. I’ll probably never live there again but it’ll always be home.
What say you? What's on your holiday 'must do' list?
