GALentine’s Day: 7 Ways to Celebrate Your Girlfriends

Last weekend, some of my blogger boos and I threw a little GALentines Day fête to celebrate our sisterhood. And stuff our faces with food. When we started working together last August, I don’t know if any of us could have guessed that we’d grow so close, but I’m grateful that we did.

GALentines day is a fairly new concept. The idea actually came from an episode of the TV show ‘Parks and Recreation’ in 2010 where one of the main characters, Leslie Knope, described it as:

“Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.

So basically it’s a day for us to celebrate our female friendships. It falls on February 13th, so before you celebrate the love you have for your bae, you have a day to celebrate the relationships you have with your boos. It’s hard to make friends as an adult, so if you can cultivate real, meaningful friendships with like minded people, that’s not only something to celebrate, it’s something to cherish.

Break Bread

My friends and I are all about food so this was a no brainer for us. Gather us your girls for a fab brunch or dinner complete with all of your fave foods, cute GALentines decor and of course cocktails.

Exchange Love Notes

There’s nothing sweeter or more meaningful than writing someone a letter or short note to tell them how much they mean to you. Put pen to paper and share the love.

We don’t do anything halfway so the decor was on point!

DIY Gift Exchange

Instead of buying your BFF a gift, why not make one? Flex your creative muscle and make your girls a little GALentine treat.

Slumber Party

I love the idea of taking a step back in time and doing the things we enjoyed as kids. A grown-up slumber party is a fun and budget friendly way to celebrate with your favorite ladies.

Hit the Town

For us hot mamas with little ones at home a night out on the time can be just what the doctor ordered. Look for a new experience to share together like a dance class, sip and paint or even an escape room. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box!

When in doubt, add cotton candy

Pampering

Who doesn’t love a good massage? Or a mani/pedi? A group trip to a spa is a sure winner.

Netflix and chill

The best friends are the one that you can sit around and chill with and just laugh until your stomach hurts.

Celebrating your friendship can be as fancy or low key as you want. The key is just to take the time to love on your tribe.
