Fresh & Easy DIY Summer Beauty Products

By  |

Summer is here people! This is not a drill! Depending on where you are in the world, you may be experiencing what feels like the seventh circle of hell (see also: heatwave in the DC area) but that doesn’t mean your skin has to suffer. Despite the hellacious heat, I still absolutely love summer and soaking up the sun.

I stopped by Good Morning Washinton to share a few helpful products you can DIY for your most moisturized and sweet-smelling summer skin. Check it out:

Cooling Aloe Face Mist

  • Aloe vera juice may help reduce the appearance of acne and is a source of antioxidants and vitamins that may help protect your skin. Rosewater has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the redness of irritated skin. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and can combat the effects of free radicals.
  • What you need:
    • Spray Bottle
    • 1/3 cup Aloe Vera gel/juice
    • 1 cup Rosewater
    • Several drops Vitamin E oil

Body Glow Oil

  • This will give you the look of the $59 Fenty Beauty body lava (which is basically a highlighter for the body) without the hefty price tag.
  • What you need:
    • Small Bottle
    • Coconut Oil or body oil of choice
    • Loose highlighter powder or pigment
  • Mix ingredients together and shake well before using

Lemon Body Scrub

  • What you need:
    • Small Mason jar
    • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
    • 1 cup sugar (adjust according to your texture preference)
    • Lemon Essential oil (lime works too)
  • Mix ingredients in a bowl and transfer to a mason jar. Apply pre and post-shave for extra smoothness.

Moisturizing Cocoa-Shea Body Lotion (click to get the deets on how to make this ultra-moisturizing lotion)

DIY Bug Spray (safe for adults & Kids over 10)

  • One of the things I love most about the summer is spending time outside. My kiddos and I are big pool and beach lovers so we tend to be outside a lot. What I do not like, however, are bugs. I’m the girl who freaks out at the sight of anything with more than four legs that’s not domesticated. Enter this DIY bug spray.
  • This combination of essential oils repels mosquitoes, flies, gnats, and ticks.
  • What you need:
    • Spray bottle(s)
    • Witch hazel
    • Distilled water
    • Essential oil (lavender + lemongrass + peppermint or eucalyptus + lavender + lemongrass)
  • Depending on the size of your spray bottle, use equal parts witch hazel and distilled water then add your oils. For a 4oz bottle, you’ll want to use about 40-50 drops of essential oil total. These blends are safe for adults and kids over 10.
