My Black is Beautiful: What’s Your “Beauty in Action” Inspiration?
This post is a lil something different. I'm so excited to be a part of the My Black is Beautiful community and encourage other women to celebrate what makes them beautiful!
My Black is Beautiful celebrates the diverse collective beauty of African-American women and encourages black women to define and promote our own beauty standard — one that is an authentic reflection of our indomitable spirit. MBIB initiates one of the largest online community conversations with African-American women. Join the movement, define your own beauty standards, help ignite a national conversation and share your extraordinary beauty with the world.
In preparation for the Essence Music Festival that kicks off this weekend in New Orleans, My Black is Beautiful (MBIB) launched a Road to Essence “Beauty in Action” challenge in partnership with nationally renowned transformational expert, Lisa Nichols.
If y'all didn't already know, I love me some Lisa. I just started re-reading her book 'No Matter What!: 9 Steps to Living the Life You Love' for the second time. There's some really juicy stuff in that book y'all. But lemme get back to the topic at hand. MBIB and Lisa Nichols encourage women to show their “beauty in action” by sharing what encourages them to believe that beauty is more than skin deep.
I have so many examples of “beauty in action”; my Mother who instilled confidence in me and offers that boost when I need it most. My Father, who continues to remind me how beautiful, smart and loved I am. My Husband who loves me even when I am looking (and sometimes acting) less than beautiful… So what’s my beauty in action inspiration? My babies!
These little boys show me every day that my beauty is more than skin deep. They teach me to see beauty in ways that I never expected and they love me without conditions. Even when I’m being ‘mean mommy’ I can count on them to grab me and hug me like only my kids can. They show me how much they appreciate me (I pray they remember that when they become teenagers!) and even when I wake up in the morning, makeup free with disheveled hair, they still manage to be excited to jump in my bed and snuggle with me.
So, what say you? What’s YOUR “Beauty in Action” inspiration? Is there someone or something in your life that has inspired you to feel beautiful inside or out? Let me know in the comments!
