That Time I Was a Guest on ABC’s ‘The Chew’

Yep. You read that right. I was a guest on ABC’s daytime show, ‘The Chew’.

Even though we taped back in September, I still get pretty jazzed when I think about it. I really wanted to wait until it aired to share the whole experience with you guys but it was supposed to air sometime in October and the year’s almost over so I figured, hey might as well share now.  ** It aired on 3/14/16! See video above**

Hopefully it’ll still air, but even if it doesn’t, I still got to have one of the most amazing experiences ever. I got to spend the day with Chefs Mario Batali, Carla Hall and Michael Symon and (every fashion girls dream!!) Clinton Kelly. I even got to meet the executive producer, Gordon Elliott! It was a truly awesome experience.

In the segment, I told Clinton about how my husband and I get the kids involved in mealtime, how we get them to eat veggies and how we plan meals to maintain our sanity.

One of the things we do is a weekly meal calendar; This alone has saved us time, money and many a headache.

We sit down on the weekends, usually Sunday and talk about what we may want to eat that week. The kids have their input (spaghetti, hamburgers, no fish) and we fill in the blanks (everything else).

You can write everything down on a piece of paper or calendar, but I’m extra and I like pretty things so I made this DIY dry erase version:

Menu1

Here’s what you’ll need:

Menu2

Picture Frame: You can use whatever size frame you’d like, mine is 11 x 17

letter stickers

Fabric or decorative paper like wrapping paper or scrapbook pages (depending on what size frame you use)

Instructions:

Remove the back of your picture frame as if you were going to put a picture inside. Instead of a picture, you’re going to place your fabric or decorative paper inside. I suggest using a light colored fabric/paper because it makes it easier to see the writing on the finished product. Replace the back of the frame.

Now, you can add the lettering/words to the glass part of the frame. This is your ‘dry erase’ surface. We use ours as a weekly menu but you can use it for anything… appointment reminders, kids homework, etc.

That’s it, you’re done! Now you can hang your ‘dry erase’ board up and plan away.

What say you? How do you keep mealtime organized?
